Google Japan adds tabs to front page

Written by support on 水曜日, 3月 19th, 2008 in All, Google.

Google Japan added tabs to the front page. This seems to be there to make Japanese users aware of all of the features that Google has. I’m not sure if this is just temporary or not but someone should have noticed long ago Yahoo Japan has the market share because people actually know what it has to offer.

I’ve even seen Google ads for iGoogle in Social Networking Site Mixi to try to attract Japanese users. The new tabs ads menus for

Recommended: Mail, Youtube, News, Maps, Transit
Various Searches: Images, Blogs, Literature, Desktop
Convenient Tools: Calendar, Documents, Reader, Toolbar
For Fun: Youtube, Piccasso, Blogger, & Google Earth

I actually give the Japan Team credit for getting the US team to understand they have to start thinking about the average users in Japan to increase marketshare. The only gmail users I know are people in IT or bilingual.

Yahoo Search International wrapup

Written by support on 月曜日, 9月 3rd, 2007 in All, Yahoo, Overture.

It seems as though the Yahoo has been busy in the last 3 months upgrading the international sites to the Panama system.

So for Asia

Taiwan
Japan
Hong Kong
Korea

Are all upgraded to the Panama system.

Now let’s hope the continue to roll out new tools for it.
& get rid of the dang zip files made from the Reports.
csv, or excel format was really quick & easy to download & open.

Finally have Quality at Overture

Written by support on 火曜日, 7月 31st, 2007 in All, Yahoo, Overture.

Our company didn’t have a bad migration from Overture to the new Panama platform as many had in the US. Japan has been ported over to Panama completely & finally we have quality score. One of the accounts that I manage in Japanese had a significant decrease in cost after Quality score was in place.

I understand what Yahoo Search (Still Overture in Japan & Korea) is trying to do. On the Panama platform it’s becoming a global platform.

One thing I’m waiting for is to see if they will introduce the publishers network to Japan. Advertisers in the US go for Google but budgets for Yahoo Japan generally are 3 times what advertisers spend on Google.

There are already corporate tools being launched & if I go to the seminar for it I’ll let you guys know.

Written by support on 木曜日, 5月 31st, 2007 in All.

Just got this Press Release about Blog De Baito. New Blog Review system from Sozon. The great thing about a blog review system that isn’t started from the US is that it doesn’t have to force bloggers to disclose post are paid reviews.

Tokyo, Japan, May 31, 2007 – (JCN Newswire) – Sozon Inc. has announced the release of a new product in their Internet Marketing product lineup, Blog de Baito™, which allows bloggers to blog on behalf of advertisers in exchange for a commission fee.

With Blog de Baito™, advertisers can achieve three objectives: natural online advertising, word of mouth and direct SEO friendly links to their websites. As the recent rapid increase of the Internet user, it has now joined the other four major advertising channels which are television, radio, newspaper and magazine. Therefore, web promotion has become a necessity in advertising.

Commonly-used forms of internet advertising include banner advertisements, Search Engine Marketing(Paid Listing Advertisements)and Affiliate Marketing; however, recent market trends have required companies and organizations to have more intimate relationships with individual consumers, whose comments and analysis of their services and products can have substantial influence. As such, Sozon developed Blog de Baito™, which allows bloggers to write about advertisers services and products on their blogs in exchange for a commission fee for the blogger, and natural promotion for the advertiser. Yahoo! Japan becomes Parent company of Overture Japan

Written by support on 木曜日, 4月 26th, 2007 in All, Overture.

This week Overture Japan announced that Yahoo! Japan has become it’s parent company. Overture Japan still maintains it’s identity unlike the US Overture which turned into Yahoo Publishing.

Hopefully they will offer a publishing program for webmasters but we’ll have to wait to find out.

Yahoo! Japan update over the weekend

Written by support on 月曜日, 4月 2nd, 2007 in All, Yahoo.

Over the weekend there seems to have been a Yahoo! Japan update. I notice a lot of my domains that lost rankings in the February update bounce back with even better stats than before. I even picked up a few first page spots for unbelievable keywords…

Love Ya Yahoo.. Thanks…

Yahoo!Japan starts social news site

Written by support on 日曜日, 3月 25th, 2007 in All, Yahoo.

Yahoo!Japan starts みんなのトピックス(Everyone’s Topics) . The format is similar to Digg the social news site dominating in the US. Instead of starting off with no content Yahoo!Japan seemed to team up with existing social news sites Newsing, Buzzurl, & Choix.

Initially it seems the links are actually SEO friendly & I assume this is to encourage users to post their content. I would recommend using the service now before in the future the URLs move to being redirects. Since the Yahoo! directory went this way years ago I’d only assume that Minna No Topics will go this route also after it gets popular.

It might take a little while for users to get used to it but I’m sure those in SEO are already taking advantage of the site…

Will Myspace Japan overthrow Mixi?

Written by support on 日曜日, 3月 25th, 2007 in All, SNS.

Now that Myspace has a Japanese
interface I had to think about if it will take over as the leading SNS for Japan
. Thinking
about it I realize that there is no way it could take over. I’m a user of both & know why Japanese like Mixi so much. I could easily see why many will like MySpace also.

Myspace screams American style, & Japanese get a chance to chat for free with native Americans. This is a huge plus for those studying English. Japanese that I’ve seen using Myspace are not there trying to link up with other Japanese. This is why it won’t be for everyone.

Mixi does the task well of letting Japanese link to people who interest them. You feel funny on Myspace not having your own picture on your profile. But on Mixi also 90% of the profiles have a completely random icon. These are uploaded & selected by users, most who feel they just want to be on the net without someone knowing exactly who they are. Being American I also find it extremely hard to remember who is in my friend’s list. I have to close to 1000 people & because no one uses their real pictures I always forget who my actual real friends are too.

Mixi has provided solutions for this lately letting users write memo’s on their friends profiles so they can remember who’s who.

Not everyone is going to want to speak to non Japanese, it’s going to be hard to compete. One advantage that MySpace does have is the music technology, Mixi only recently added video support & that’s only for subscribed members at around 500 yen a month.

Anyway let’s see how it goes next year, I could be wrong.
